It’s interesting how you highlight the lawncare baggie, I’ve seen them too and thought about their effectiveness. But unlike you or I, I wonder how many people find it a nuisance? How many other lawncare services do it too? It’s one thing if you get these once every few months but I wonder if people get them multiple times a month? As a former staff member of Hometown News, I’ve seen the complains of people who are tired of getting the freebie on their driveway weekly. They simply don’t care to unfold it, check out the 10-20 pages the different editions have, and at least skim the headlines. I see it in my parent’s own neighborhood, the left behind copies.

So at the end of the day, is it effective? Maybe? I guess if for every 50 you deliver, if you get one customer that’s not horrible. I like the idea of the sticker though. I find myself constantly reading bumper stickers/magnets when I’m at a red light. Marketing your book that way seems more interesting to me. I’d love to discover books that way instead of seeing people’s political preferences or personal humor.

Effective marketing is about creating a mutually beneficial relationship between the customer and the supplier. When done properly, it is a win-win operation.
