Happy travels and reading. Your patience for going 150+ pages in that situation dwarfs mine. I’ve been encouraged to read the European and other fiction authors, but am reluctant maybe for fear of liking them and losing time for spending on the domestic writers I haven’t read yet. But I also think it’s easier to tolerate the occasional disappointment when you’re on a journey. But there, too, I’d be all eyes, afraid to miss something. You must be familiar with the territory…

Familiar? Not so much, Dan, but I’ve been in France for the past month, writing my latest novel, and of course must take a break now and then to relax and read something else. The guy from whom I rent the maison is an American (not an expat – not living here full-time b/c he rents the place out – this is my third sojourn here) – BUT he has a well-stocked library and so I have indulged myself. The Ian Rankn was great! There’ll be another next week, but that’ll be it for now – I’ll finish my novel by tomorrow and be back in Boston late next week. Good to hear from you, Dan the Man! I hope you were pleased with your appearance in the FC Anthology. When do we get a new submission from you? ~ Jack
